Maine GOP alleges Maine People’s Alliance Illegally Gathered Signatures

According to the Maine GOP,  Maine People’s Alliance illegally gathered signatures for the “Yes on 2 vote” and has asked Attorney General Janet Mills to investigate. (1)

“The Maine People’s Alliance clearly chose to hide their activity from the public by refusing to submit their required Registration Application to the Secretary of State,” said Maine GOP Chair Dr. Demi Kouzounas. “In fact, it was not until an inquiry was made to the Maine Secretary of State’s Office that they were forced to file.”

“Today we are filing a request asking Attorney General Janet Mills to investigate and prosecute this violation of state law under Section 903-C of Title 21-A, as is her obligation under 21-A MRS § 33,” continued Dr. Kouzounas.

It will be interesting to see how Attorney General Janet Mills handles this allegation.  Mills is a self proclaimed liberal and she is running for Governor as a Democrat. Though the Office of the Attorney General is supposed to be a non-partisan position, faithfully defending and enforcing the laws of the State of Maine, this allegation clearly backs AG Mills into a political corner. If the allegations are factual and in violation of the law, and Attorney General Mills doesn’t act, it would clearly show her to be bias and incapable of faithfully executing the requirements of her job. If she punishes Maine People’s Alliance, she exposes the corrupt and illegal nature of the Democratic Party and Liberals in Maine, which would also include herself.

Integrity4Maine will be “grabbing its popcorn” on this one.  Well played MaineGOP… well played!

Attached is the letter from the Maine GOP sent to AG Mills.
